Whether your goal is to become an SOC analyst, database administrator, or to be placed in a myriad of other IT-related roles, this crucial certification is the starting point you need to prepare you for success. For more job-ideas check out our What Can I Do with a CompTIA Security+ Certification!

Let’s take a look!

What is Security+ Certification, anyway?

Simply put—Security+ certification is CompTIA’s entry-level credential rated highest among cybersecurity organizations. CompTIA Security+ is your essential starting point into any job that involves cybersecurity.

The certification gives potential hiring managers the peace of mind that you have a hands-on practical baseline knowledge required to address cybersecurity threats across a variety of areas including:

  • Architecture and design structuring
  • Key Infrastructure Implementation
  • Threats, vulnerability and attack discovery
  • Response to operational incidents related to security issues
  • Compliance, risk, and governance knowledge

Although it is recommended that exam applicants have prior IT knowledge before attempting the certification, there are no prerequisites to taking the certification test. The 90-question, $370 test requires a passing score of at least 750, out of 900 points. The 90-minute test will allow plenty of time to effectively test your practical knowledge of the key cybersecurity components listed above.

Combining both performance-based and multiple choice questions you will have the opportunity to test your knowledge of real-world scenarios facing a variety of career paths related to the IT industry.

So is Security+ Certification really worth it?

Our world is online. Gone are the days of easy isolation from threats of the internet. Ever growing internet security threats are all around us. Therefore, threats to online security will continue to increase exponentially as archaic firewall hacking tricks morph into more sophisticated methods of security compromise.

The CompTIA Security+ certification, chosen most consistently as the baseline certification able to meet compliance expectations of the Department of Defense 8570 directive, meets ongoing adaptation demands by corporations’ security and defense systems.

If not required as a job-related skill, having Security+ will, at minimum, set you apart from other job applicants, having that added value.

Having the knowledge of the needed technical skills acquired from the certification preparation, allows new job training processes to flow smoothly.
